The Ninja Creami - a machine that straddles the line between blender and ice cream maker - has soared in popularity over the last few years. It's been out of stock several times as people snap up the device to make smoothies, frozen cocktails, and frozen desserts. A recent viral post by TikTok creator Arriella Simons now has fans of the appliance second guessing whether they want to keep it. Simons found maggots crawling around in the cracks and crevices of her machine and despite deep cleaning, couldn't remove all of them.

Comments on the video showed that this was not an isolated problem, with some people stating that this had happened to them and others making the horrifying discovery that they too had unwanted guests in their Ninja Creami bowl. Many users complained that the machine was extremely difficult to clean, with cracks and crevices that were all but unreachable.

SharkNinja, the makers of the appliance, reached out to Simons and have asked her to return the machine. The company's position is that the machine wasn't properly cleaned, and they posted instructions and a video showing the correct cleaning method. Molly Delaney, a spokesperson for the company, said that the Ninja Creami is meant to be “fully disassembled and cleaned after each use.” While the company did not directly address questions about whether they are considering changes to the product's design, Delaney said SharkNinja is “always innovating our products and focused on improving the experience they deliver.”
