EYB and Cookshelf members know the value of cooking advice from a trusted friend. That's why so many of us turn to the notes section of a recipe on the EYB website before we decide whether to make it, or to find out what tweaks we may want to make. Now that same useful information—along with a vibrant community of people who share our passion—is available on Cookshelf. If you haven't updated the app recently, you definitely want to do it now. And if you are an EYB Member but haven't downloaded the app yet, this is the perfect opportunity to discover why people love it so much.

In addition to a chic new landing, your Home now shows real cooks from the books already on your shelf—what people made, the notes they left, the little tweaks that made it better. It's the good part of a cooking group chat, all in the app. You can find the people whose cooking you trust and follow along. When they make something worth talking about, you’ll see it. Another tweak to the app is a switch to using real names so friends can find you more easily, and so our community feels more personal. You choose how your name appears, and you can always change it later.
Now you can also stay in the loop: turn on notifications and Cookshelf will give you a heads-up when someone new follows you, when a friend likes your cook, and when a book from your shelf is added to our catalog (it's how I learned that one of my favorite older books was just indexed!). None of this changes the books and recipes you already count on. It just adds the company. We think it’s more fun with friends in the kitchen.

Wow, I hardly ever write comments. But the social media features of Cookshelf really hit a nerve!

There are too many aspects of Cookshelf that match my workflow. For instance, when I click on a book, I don't like that I see popular recipes before I see the index of all the recipes.
The sorting by author and by title is a mess. In my library on cookshelf Zingerman's Celebrate Every Day comes first in my sort by author. The author is listed as Zingerman's Bakehouse and it shows up before Lonely Planet and all the authers whose last name starts with A. Additionally, titles sort on punctuation and numbers before letters. I can live with numbers first, but "Everything Tapas" shows up first, followed by The $64 Tomato, followed by !Cuba!. My other Everything Books sort with E. While this is technically accurate, it is really not very helpful.
So I may play around with it from time to time, but the things I want are either exclusively on the website, or most easily accessed there. That's where I will stay.

The website is fantastic, and something I had been always been looking for. I think it has a much more practical use than what is offered on the app. I ditto all that tmjellico above stated, although if the site changes, it won’t bother me as long as all the current functions are kept.

For me the website is perfect, I use it every single day either on my tablet or laptop. I like to read through other people's comments but I don't need to see pictures (not always very attractive}. I like the ability to search for recipes by having a look in the fridge to see what needs using up, and quite often that throws up some great meals with ingredients that I wouldn't have thought about putting together. I like the daily blog posts and the forum is great when I've got a question about something cooking related.
I appreciate that a lot of work has gone into the app, but it's not for me.

The cookbook IS the beating heart of this community and this website! Like others, I downloaded the app when it was released and mainly use it for the cooking goal, which is still there but not as convenient to find now. I personally find the new Home Screen jarring. It reminds me of a QR code menu with all of these pictures of random recipes and comments presenting themselves before I am actually ready. I want to start with a book, enjoy the cover art (or complain that my American Covers are never as beautiful as the UK version!) and then ease gently into recipes, reading a note, etc. This is what the Website experience provides. I appreciate that there are strong preferences for both the EYB website format and the Cookshelf app. The app seems to be moving full steam ahead with new features that work for some. I hope that the Website will remain a community that continues to honor the importance of the books themselves.
