Journey The Journey is the first edition in the Alta Editions Cooking Series, a new online cookbook series featuring stories and exclusive recipes from some of the world's most inspiring chefs. This edition features four remarkable New York City-based women chefs: Katy Sparks, executive chef of Tavern on the Green; Maneet Chauhan, a judge on Food Network's "Chopped;" Alex Raij, chef and co-owner of Txikito, El Quinto Pino, El Comedor and La Vara; and Rita Sodi, chef and owner of I Sodi.

And Alta has also published their first eBook: Laurent Gras' My Provence, which contains over 50 Provence-inspired recipes from renowned chef Laurent Gras.

I have started using my iPad a lot in the kitchen, holding it up with an inexpensive plate stand. I am now purchasing more e-cookbooks (don't need to find room on my bookshelves!) I also have some cooking apps that I use and particularly enjoy the ones with video instruction.

Sort of. I use iPad and computer to search out recipes or to return to recipes I have liked. But because I rarely cook any recipe exactly as written, I use these devices to read 3 or 8 or 20 similar recipes (!), make a mental note of the elements I want to use, and go cook from what is in my memory. Occasionally, I set up the iPad or computer on the counter to jog my memory on a particularly tricky or important component - a technique, or spice blend, or timing.

Actually, for the very first time today! We have started the Christmas holidays at the beach (summer here in Australia) and I wanted to make a pavlova as soon as I arrived as we have guests for dinner tonight. Didn't want to take the cookbook(Masterchef book 2) with my favourite version, lightbulb moment, take a photo of the recipe with my newish iPad! yeh! First photo, and surprise, surprise, it's of a recipe. Now for some way to organise them, there are sure to be many more,

Not _in_ the kitchen, but I keep my favourite recipes on my blog, and call them up on the computer as a quick memory jogger. If necessary I print the ingredient list/method and take it with me.

I use an iPad but I still prefer cookbooks because it's easier to use many books at once. I often FaceTime with my sister while cooking, me in California, she in Wisconsin. That way we can sort of cook together.

No I don't, too manychances for spill. Outside of the kitchen we use it to choose a recipe, then print and place in a plastic sleeve. The advantage is when someone likes the recipe I just hand them the printed sheet.

Too risky for me-printer paper is much cheaper than replacing laptop or iPad. Also, you can tape that at eye level on cupboard door.

Yes, I use a tablet in the kitchen. I frequently refer to magazine indexes to find recipes. Tablet version of magazines also provide other type of content such as videos etc. I still cook from my cookbook collection though.

I use my iPad 1 sometimes but still prefer to print recipes out so I can write on them. I even copy pages from my cookbooks from which to cook so I can make notes. Then I transcribe with date and notes into the cookbook. My resolution for 2014 is using EYB more efficiently. Need to find some new ways!

Neither - I use paper! Either I take a book into the kitchen, or I print out a recipe which I have found on the internet. Paper allows me to write down any changes while I am busy, even if my hands are sticky/buttery/other!

I use my iPad all of the time. Sorry about this plug but I use and love how Chef Sleeves give me peace of mind and that even if I have batter on my hands I can still scroll through my recipe. I would never bring my computer into the kitchen. SCARY!

Don't have the computer in the kitchen. It's in another room. I use it all the time for researching recipes. I print the one's I want to make, then take notes on my print-out with adjustments, etc.

I couldn't get by without my MacBook Pro in the kitchen. I use a silicone keyboard cover to prevent splashes or spills from going into the keyboard and a screen protector.
EYB is permanently open and invaluable. I use extra tabs to search for recipes, methods etc.
Beats trying to remember where that recipe is from my large collection of cookbooks.
Still love my books as well.

I'm getting used to using the IPad in order to save my books from splashes and worse. I use an old acrylic book stand to protect the IPad screen and to keep it standing up while I cook. Still it's a bit of a pain when I have to move down the screen. Is there anything else that protects the IPad but leaves it accessible?

As I gradually acquire ebooks, I see a kitchen friendly device in my future. Like many of the previous commenters, I love my physical books, but I also cook many online/blog recipes. Usually I hand copy the recipe -- that helps me organize it in my head, sometimes reorganize the process too. After making it, I note the inevitable modifications and date and rank the recipe for future use. So, a time and a place for everything. And EYB is a blessing!

I use my iPad in the kitchen ALL THE TIME as you could tell if you look at the state of my screen lol. I've got flour, sugar and butter all stuck to the screen.

Luckily I have a screen protector on it. When my screen gets too bad and the stains are permanent, I just change the screen protector. You can get them from Amazon.

I occasionally will take the laptop into the kitchen, but prefer to not. Somehow it seems to disrupt the slow calm of cooking, so rather I will focus on paper recipes (in cookbooks or previously transcribed from websites and blogs), or take the time to write out the recipe I want to use.

I use mobile or laptop for conversions as I use a few US cookbooks in a UK kitchen. Otherwise I prefer to read a recipe from a book rather than online... has the added benefit that it doesn't matter how much food I spill - stains only make a cookbook look loved and well used, whereas they aren't so desirable on a phone! ;)
